Spring 2020 One Room Challenge Weeks 5 & 6: Just Breathe
It’s Week 6 of the One Room Challenge friends and I’m working overtime to get Sophia’s bedroom completed! My nerves are a bit wracked due to some pieces being back-ordered even longer than they initially were, so …….. we will be waiting until SEPTEMBER for her desk chair to arrive and in the meantime, I’ll have to make something else work! Ugh
A Quick Recap…
If you are just joining us, welcome! Here is a recap!
Week One -
Week Two - Wallpaper Change Up
Week Three - The Battle of the Wallpaper
Week Five - Cancelled
There has been a LOT going on the past two weeks. I will tell you though, I have to do a little work on a couple of wallpaper seams. Since I am not a professional I ended up with a few places where the seams have spread just a scootch. No worries, I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve (and a couple of wallpaper hangers to advise).
Current Update: Custom Built-Ins
The biggest change to Sophia’s bedroom is the built-ins. No I did not build them, but I did do all of the caulking, filling, sanding and painting of them. They look great and Phia just loves them! I can’t wait to get her cushion on the bench so she can snuggle up! So happy with how they have changed her room!!!
Before and After: Custom Built -Ins
The next thing I worked on (since I have been putting off sanding and refinishing her bed) was the nightstand. I was going to buy a nightstand from a trade vendor and I was okay paying for shipping from High Point to Charlotte, but when they wanted me to sign off on liability and find my own shipper I cancelled that order faster than I could blink and looked for a consignment piece here locally I could refinish. Let’s remind ourselves what I was going to use.
And this is what I found that I knew I could refinish.
There were multiple layers of stripper involved and a little light sanding. I’ll spare you the interim photos since I forgot to take a video of the process, but we are really pleased with the final product!! I used a Verethane stain and matte poly on the wood and a gloss white paint for the drawers. Still trying to decide if I am going to spray the base and replace the knobs, but it isn’t high on my list.
The rug arrived, thank goodness since the new carpet will have to go in after the ORC is over!
And artwork has started arriving! We are in love with this piece over Phia’s dresser.
