Spring 2020 One Room Challenge Week 3: The Battle of the Wallpaper

Hi there! Last week was a bit challenging to get work done as we entered the third week of the One Room Challenge!! It’s my plumber with the leaky pipes story from Week One, work took a lot of my time and matching wallpaper seams on a ceiling at midnight is not really ideal. I have had technology issues as well with my laptop not cooperating so it is with my tech guru. I was able to finish the third coat of paint and start wallpapering the ceiling in Sophia’s bedroom.

If you are visiting here for the first time, welcome!! I’m working on my daughter’s bedroom for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens. I joined as a guest participant and this is my first time participating. I shared the before photos of her bedroom Week 1, and Week 2, I shared my client’s updated design plans.

I painted her room in Sherwin Williams Emerald Designer Edition Paint. Sophia picked out White Sand and it is a cool white with just a touch of gray. The perfect white for her room.

Teen Bedroom Update: Deciding on Wallpaper

If you were here last week then you know Sophia changed her mind about the wallpaper we were originally planning to use on the ceiling. Kate Spade Shadow Dot for Kravet. She felt she was too grown up for it anymore and it didn’t work with the more mature room she wanted.

We decided to go with Cole and Sons Nuvolette in Soot and Snow. It’s perfect with the White Sand Emerald paint and really makes Sophia’s room feel sophisticated!

Let me tell you, I have wallpapered a lot of walls, but wallpapering the ceiling is a game changer. Nuvolette is a mural so it has to be laid out in a specific match between two rolls. I had to pattern match on the floor and install backwards on the ceiling! I did it, but quickly realized it took two people to install paper on the ceiling, or at least it took me two people to install it on the ceiling!!

Stay Tuned…

Next weekend I will be adding built-ins to the room! It seems backwards and it is just a bit, but I couldn’t wait to paint and wallpaper or I would run out of time. I will be working on painting her bed and nightstand. Also coming I believe is new carpeting. Still working out all of those details, but as often happens with clients, one thing leads to another!!!

Still on my list:

  • Area rug/fun Moroccan rug

  • Mirror/square brass to bring a little light into the room

  • Lamps/mismatched, black and she needs to choose a desk lamp

  • Window seat fabric/Awesome Designer’s Guild fabric to tie in the colors from the artwork Sophia selected last year

  • Hand painted artwork

  • Frames/frame existing artwork we already have and new artwork we will make

  • Paint bed frame/keeping her bed

  • Painting the nightstand
